Welcome to the North Carolina State Ethics Commission's web site. This new site is currently under development and will be undergoing major changes over the next few months as the Commission continues to strive to provide public officials and members of the public they serve with information required by the State Government Ethics Act ("SGEA" or "Ethics Act"). NOTICE
On August 15, 2008, the Governor signed HB 2542 (S.L. 2008-213) — Clarify Ethics & Lobbying Laws, and SB 1875 (S.L. 2008-215) — Clarify Auditor Hotline Authority/SEC. This legislation made both technical and substantive amendments to the State Government Ethics Act (Chapter 138A of the General Statutes) and the Lobbying Law (Chapter 120C of the General Statutes). Several of these changes have retroactive effective dates. Below are links to the Session Laws and the Commission's 2008 Legislative Report:

PUBLIC INPUT REQUESTED
The legislature has asked the Commission to conduct a study of the implementation and effectiveness of the State Government Ethics Act. In order to assist the Commission in conducting this study, we would like to hear your opinions on ways in which the Commission can more effectively and efficiently carry out its duties under both the Ethics and Lobbying Acts. The Commission would also like to hear from you concerning any areas that you believe are working well. Below is a link to a comment form for your use as well as additional information regarding the study.
We would like to have your written comments back by October 17th. You may also comment by e-mail to ethics.commission@doa.nc.gov or by calling our office at (919) 807-4620. Finally, the Commission is inviting public comment at its November 14th meeting.
